Honeysuckle Distillery has been distilling innovative drinks for fans across Australia for almost a year now – but who is the face behind the range, and where did the inspiration come from?
We sit down with Phil Henderson, Founder of Honeysuckle Distillery, to learn more.
Q: When did you start thinking about launching Honeysuckle Distillery?
I’ve always wanted to run my own business, and even as a kid growing up in England I would sell cooking apples from my driveway to passing shoppers. Honeysuckle itself was all about the right time and having met the right business partner, it all happened rather quickly in October 2019.
Q: How long did it take you to go from idea to launch?
It took be around 14 months to go from concept to launch, although I’d had flavour pairings in mind for a long time before then and was looking at the best way of bringing them to life.
Q: What appeals to you about the “hard seltzer” movement?
Freedom, as a new kid in the fridge and shelf, we do not have the constraints of established brands, we are making history rather than honouring it and that of course is just a life cycle of where we are at right now.
Q: What was it like launching a new brand during a global pandemic?
Challenging, exciting, daunting, and fun! Our initial plan was to launch in August 2020, however like many businesses, our start-up was impacted with supply chain delays and business uncertainty, resulting in a three-month delay. However, when we did finally get to market, we had immediate feedback from consumers who were thrilled with our approach to the flavours, taste and nutritional side of things too.
Q: What has the reception been so far?
We are all ecstatic with the response to date, all the drinks have had super reviews from a taste perspective and the designs are outstanding, we have worked with a range of talented business partners to get to where we are.
